More about my kitchen
than you ever wanted to knowTonight I got to get a little closer, and I was on the opposite side of the stage than the night before. REO played first again, with no technical problems this time! Two or three songs into the show, I noticed a strange smell. I had noticed it last night too, and couldn't quite place it. It was a burning smell, and vaguely familiar. (No, not THAT!) I had finally decided that it smelled the same way my kitchen smells when I steam corn. I think it's actually my bamboo steamer that makes that smell, but for purpose of getting the thought out of my head last night, I had labeled it as the smell of popcorn and figured it was coming from the concession stands. I don't remember anyone selling steamed popcorn in bamboo containers, but that closed the subject for me at the time!
Tonight, though, I could smell it again, and stronger. I looked around and noticed a thin strand of smoke coming up from the far side of the stage. I traced the line and finally saw the source - way off to the side of the stage next to the mixing board, there was a stick of incense burning. Mystery solved - and now I know there is one place right up at the stage where I would not want to stand! Once I identified that burning smell though, I could mostly ignore it.
