A few songs into the show,
Kevin announced they were going to play a new song that they had never played
in front of anyone before! He said it was written during the tour, one night
when he could hear some sort of party going on in the hallway outside his
hotel room. He said he felt like he had a devil on one shoulder, telling him
to go out and join in the fun, and an angel on the other shoulder, telling him
to stay put and behave, and the song was about which side won. So as not to
keep you in suspense - the angel! It's hard to pick out lyrics to a song when
you only hear it live, but a few lines of the chorus are "I'm a married
man… a better man than I used to be… I'm proud to be as in love with you
as I am… I’m a married man!" Very rocking song! Cool
thing was they didn't cut another song to play this one - just a story! I love
Kevin but I always said they could fit in a whole extra song if he didn't tell
the Sandra Gapinski story every night - and it turned out to be true!
Before "Time For Me To Fly", Kevin talks about how everyone seems to know the words to some songs, like this one, and how those songs don't belong to him or the band anymore, they belong to everyone. Well he's right - during the chorus of this song, I saw the security guy who was facing the center aisle singing along! I thought that was terrific!
