Just to mix it up a little…

JYNext, JY said, "For those of you who were here last night, we decided to work up some different songs for tonight." To deafening screams, he introduced "Half-Penny, Two-Penny," which I had not heard live in way way too long - it was fantastic! JY sounded great, and I think the band was as excited to play it as we were to hear it. They followed with "The Best Of Times," another one that hadn't been out on stage in a while, and Lawrence did a great job with that.

Next they played what are, to me, two of the most lyrically inspirational songs Styx has ever done: "Lights," which they had not played outside of their acoustic set for years, and "On My Way," which this lineup of the band had never performed live before. A line from "Lights" is what I generally use when someone says something to the effect of "you're going to Mississippi to see a band?" and does that eye-rolling thing… you know who you are. The answer to that is simply, "Thank you for caring, but tonight, the lights will take me where I long to be… just like a thousand nights before… I can't explain, it gives me something…" Okay, not a thousand yet, but I'm working on it! Incredible performances by everyone and incredible responses from the crowd! Between these two songs, Todd had a brilliant drum break that tied the songs together beautifully. Amazing... just amazing. It was great to hear all of these songs again - I sang along to every word at the top of my lungs.
